(BOP) - Each year, the Attorney General (AG) recognizes Department of Justice employees for their distinguished public service. This year, Rodell T. Fletcher received the AG's Excellence in Administrative Support Award for his professionalism and distinguished service as Warden’s Secretary at FCI Edgefield, South Carolina.
The Attorney General’s Award for Excellence in Administrative Support recognizes outstanding performance in administrative or managerial support by an administrative employee or secretary.
Mr. Fletcher accomplished the myriad of tasks expected of any Warden's Secretary and proved a reliable resource, an individual of stout integrity and professionalism, and a dedicated contributor to the success of the Office of the Warden at FCI Edgefield, and the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP). Mr. Fletcher took the initiative to incorporate new systems, protocols, and procedures to ensure the Warden's Office operated efficiently, especially in the absence of a permanent Warden, Associate Warden(s) and Executive Assistant. He also stepped in to fulfill some of their duties when acting members of the Executive Office were not available. His implementation of new protocols and procedures, especially during the transition of the institution’s Executive Staff, made a tremendous difference in bridging the gap in communication within in the Warden's Office and with each department for all institution staff. In fact, his administrative tracking protocols were adopted and are now being utilized by all institution departments.
As a role model and subject matter expert, Mr. Fletcher was frequently contacted by FCI Edgefield staff from all disciplines to assist with formatting correspondence and related protocols. He provided appropriate supervision and direction to inmates working in his area treating them with dignity and the proper degree of respect.
During the Attorney General and Congressional visit to FCI Edgefield in 2019, Mr. Fletcher displayed professionalism, dedication, and attention to detail in preparing for the visit. He communicated with the Attorney General’s staff, Senators’ aides, and the BOP Director's Office to ensure all needs were met prior to, during, and following this special visit. For all of these reasons, Mr. Fletcher is a sterling example of Bureau excellence and is well deserved of this recognition and award.
