Last fiscal year the Bureau made tremendous staffing gains through our increased recruitment and hiring efforts; however, staffing levels are currently trending downward nationwide. To reverse this pattern, the Bureau is once again focusing on staffing all locations to their funded level through recruitment and external hiring. Hiring Events, such as those listed below, are being offered at every location across the country through the end of September. Also noted below are a number of locations that are offering recruitment incentives for new hires.
When attending a hiring event, applicants should bring their resume and two forms of identification. Veterans are encouraged to attend and should also bring a resume, Member 4 copy of their DD-214 and/or SF-15 application for 10-point preference and VA rating decision letter, if applicable. In most cases, Federal regulations require BOP employees to be under 37 years old when hired; however, exceptions are made for certain hard-to-fill positions and for preference eligible veterans. U.S. citizenship is also required. All candidates are subject to a drug urinalysis, physical examination, background investigation and, if hired, must successfully complete the three-week course, "Introduction to Correctional Techniques."
