(BOP) -Shannon Robbins, Chief of the Designation and Sentence Computation Center (DSCC) located in Grand Prairie, Texas, has been honored by Women in Federal Law Enforcement (WIFLE) as this year's recipient of the "WIFLE Foundation Public Service Award." This prestigious award recognizes the exemplary performance of career civil servants who consistently contribute to the public interests of our country and serve as role models for all women, especially those in law enforcement.
As Chief of the DSCC, Ms. Robbins supervises a staffing complement of more than 270 whose primary responsibilities include the classification, designation, transportation, and sentence computations of federal offenders. The DSCC processes more than 70,000 initial designations and 50,000 re-designations each year, and Ms. Robbins oversees the massive task of balancing the population throughout the Bureau's 122 institutions while complying with law, policy, and security concerns. She also serves as a subject matter expert in her area(s) of responsibility and as a liaison between the Bureau of Prisons and local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, including state and Federal courts.
Following the enactment of the First Step Act, Ms. Robbins oversaw the immediate release of 2,553 inmates and the sentence re-calculation for 166,000 inmates. She provides direct oversight of inmate transportation throughout the Bureau to include both bus and airlifts, averaging 100,000 moves per year. Coordination was especially critical during the COVID pandemic to ensure minimal risk of exposure, and it continues to be a fundamental aspect of agency operations. Most recently, she coordinated the large-scale movement and re-classification of MS-13 gang members following a homicide at a Federal correctional facility.
Ms. Robbins serves as an outstanding advocate for women in law enforcement and is an inspirational leader and mentor. She leads by example and strives to assist other women in reaching their career goals, regardless of their background or experience. She is to be commended for her exceptional leadership and exemplary efforts to fulfill the Bureau's mission each day.
