(BOP) - Today, Director Michael Carvajal announced Western Regional Director Gene Beasley was appointed as the Bureau of Prisons (Bureau) Deputy Director.
Mr. Beasley has 25 years experience in the corrections industry, and throughout his Bureau career, he has worked in all six Regions at every security level to include three Regional Offices and two medical centers. He began his career with the Illinois Department of Corrections in 1995, prior to joining the Bureau in 1997, as a Correctional Officer at USP Marion (IL). He served in positions of increasing responsibility, including Personnel Assistant, Human Resource Specialist, and Lead Human Resource Specialist at USP Marion; Human Resource Manager at USP Marion and FMC Lexington (KY); Executive Assistant at FCI McDowell (WV) as part of the activation team, and Regional Human Resource Administrator for the Southeast Region. Mr. Beasley was promoted to Associate Warden at FCC Pollock (LA) and FMC Carswell (TX) before being selected as Deputy Regional Director for the South Central Region in 2015. He later served as Complex Warden at FCC Forrest City (AR) and FCC Allenwood (PA). He was selected to serve on the agency's Executive Staff as Regional Director for the Western Region in February 2019.
Mr. Beasley received his Bachelor of Science degree in Administration of Justice from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. In 2018, he received the Bureau's Excellence in Prison Management Award. Mr. Beasley has been a member of the Senior Executive Service since 2017.
Mr. Beasley will succeed Dr. Thomas Kane as Deputy Director. Dr. Kane will serve as the Senior Advisor to facilitate a smooth transition. Upon making the selection, Director Carvajal commented, "I am confident Gene's twenty five years of experience in the field of corrections, coupled with his prison management and labor relations skills, will have a positive impact on the Bureau and ensure our continued success for years to come."
