Inmates are confined in facilities spread out across the United States. Each facility reports to a regional office, who provides close oversight and support to that site. At our headquarters, national programs are developed and functional support is provided to the entire agency by each "Division."
Chief of Staff
Overview
The Director's co-Chief of Staff are liaisons between the Bureau's executive team and the Director. They are also primary liaisons with the Office of the Deputy Attorney General (ODAG). They prioritize tasks, suggests strategic initiatives, relay timely and important information, and address potential issues before they become problems. They also provide project assessments and oversee and assist with daily operations.
Office of Congressional and Public Affairs
Overview
The Office of Congressional and Public Affairs works closely with the Director to ensure that formal communications accurately reflect the Bureau's philosophy and positions, and that they most effectively convey the Bureau's message. The Office is responsible for working with Congress, and the D.C. Council, to respond to inquiries and provide information to Members about programs, services and Bureau operations. Federal Prison Industries (FPI) is the largest inmate-training program operated by the Bureau of Prisons and one of the most important correctional programs in the Department of Justice.
